Four years ago I had the opportunity to test out the Traeger Ironwood 650 and my family and friends can’t stop singing the praises of my brisket and pulled pork creations. The connected nature of the Ironwood 650 made it a product that fit into a ZDNET post and Traeger continues to advance it’s technology with its grills.

Ironwood and Ironwood XL

The two newest products in the Traeger lineup include the 2023 Ironwood and Ironwood XL, available for $1,799 and $1,999, respectively.

The WIFIRE technology that enticed me to use the Ironwood 650 is present here so you can fully control your grill from anywhere with your connected phone and the Traeger app. The Traeger app is also flush with more than 1,600 recipes and I’ve found some gems on there over the years. You can also use voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

If you enjoy cooking Papa Murphy’s take-and-bake pizza then I HIGHLY recommend you use your Traeger to cook the pizza rather than your interior oven. The pizza turns out perfect and gives you that wood-fired experience and you can cook the pizza right on the tray it comes in from the store.

The new advancements found in the 2023 Ironwood and Ironwood XL include:

Smart Combustion ensures ultra-consistent burn for perfect results, every time
P.A.L. (Pop-and-Lock) accessory rail that lets you setup shelves, bins, hooks, and more
Compatible with ModiFIRE cooking surface accessories
FreeFlow Firepot enhances smoke and reduces ash buildup

The pellet sensor is also helpful so you don’t run out while cooking something for hours. It may not give you an exact level, but it is a good indicator and helpful if you head out for the day while your smoker does the work at home for you.

Traeger Flatrock

Last summer I went to several backyard parties where the host was cooking up burgers on a flat top grill. This method of cooking is great when you are sauteing onions, cooking up vegetables, or frying up a breakfast for the troops.

Traeger now has a flat top griddle option in the Traeger Flatrock Grill, available now for $899.99. Unlike its traditional grills, this is not a wood pellet model and is powered by gas. However, Traeger includes technology like a fuel gauge and FlameLock construction that uses 28% less propane than a standard griddle.

The Traeger Flatrock uses a U-burner system to provide even heating so you can use the entire griddle for cooking up your favorites. Other features of this new griddle include:

Flame sensor
Two 17-inch folding side shelves
PAL accessory rail
EZ-Clean grease and ash keg
Flamelock construction

I don’t see it available yet in a version that can be connected to a home’s natural gas line like I have with my Weber grill.
