Urtopia Chord announced: An evolution in the iPhone of ebikes
Urtopia follows up its stunning Carbon 1 with another elegant high tech ebike
Last fall I had the opportunity to spend time riding the Urtopia Carbon 1 and loved the lightweight carbon fiber design, simple elegance of the Gates carbon belt drive, and advanced integrated display and control system.
Urtopia followed that model up with the Carbon 1s that added a larger motor and 7-speed Shimano chain-driven gear system. By the way, there is a $600 coupon code for the Carbon 1s on the Urtopia website.
The new Urtopia Chord looks to be a successor to the Carbon 1s with an 8-speed Shimano gear system, 350W motor (US), and 6061 aluminum frame. Urtopia designed the Urtopia Chord with elegance at its core and inspiration from a piano keyboard and musical harmony. It will be available in black and white with high-step and step-through options. Check the Urtopia website for pricing and a special early bird price option.
After seeing the sneak peeks of the Urtopia Chord and then getting access to the press materials, I figured the Chord would be priced at $3,000 or more given the sleek design, advanced technology, and pure looks so I was surprised with the launch price.
Dr. Owen Zhang, CEO of Urtopia, stated:
We at Urtopia understand that when it comes to choosing an electric bike, our customers want the best of both worlds - a bike that not only performs exceptionally well but also takes care of their unique needs. That’s why, with Chord, we’ve gone above and beyond to create a bike that is not only beautifully designed and technologically advanced. We’re not just launching a new product, we’re launching a new way of thinking about electric bikes. With Chord, we’re putting our users at the forefront of everything we do.
I am very impressed with the price since many bikes in this range have loosely routed cables, minimal focus on good looks, and other compromises in functionality or accessories.
The Urtopia Chord is fairly light at 46 pounds, but supports up to an astounding 287 pound capacity. It has hydraulic disc brakes, front and rear fenders, a kickstand, rear taillight, and front light integrated into the advanced central display and bike control system. An integrated eSIM is present for tracking with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity also supported.
All of the technology from the Carbon is provided, including voice control, a fingerprint sensor, LED dot-matrix display, and more. The Urtopia Chord also supports Bluetooth music and GPS tracking. It’s interesting to read that the smart box can also be detached and replaced with future generation boxes so that you can trust the bike will provide the latest and greatest experience for years to come.
It is a Class 2 ebike with pedal assist supporting speeds up to 20 mph (US). Urtopia states that a range of 31 to 75 miles is provided on the Chord with fast charging of three hours also provided. This quick charging capability is fairly unique to the Chord too.
