Lectric eBikes XPeak media day and XP 3.0 brake upgrade
A quick trip to Phoenix to see the new XPeak, followed by upgrading the brakes on the XP 3.0
Six years ago I started riding ebikes as part of my daily commute and I’ve logged hundreds of miles since then. I’ve also had the opportunity to test something on the order of 50 ebikes and continue to ride them daily.
In the beginning I was focused on ebikes for commuting and then came the foldables, followed by the cargo ebikes. I’ve changed my usage as well and now I am enjoying fat tire bikes for riding on trails and gravel logging/forest service roads.
There are also a few brands that have moved to the top of my preference list with Lectric eBikes being one of my favorites for several reasons. The bikes are affordable, offer compelling features, have an easy-to-use controller interface with large numbers, provide solid support from within the US, and are a blast to ride. Even though it is the least expensive with the fewest advanced features, the XP Lite continues to be my favorite because it is a kick in the pants to ride. Every time I get on it I am transported back to my youth in the 80s.
XPeak Media Day
Over the past 22 years of writing about mobile technology, I’ve enjoyed many trips to media events to see the latest products, engage with company staff, get some face time with the PR folks I work with regularly, and meet new media friends. Earlier this week I made a one day trip to Phoenix, Arizona, and visited the Lectric eBikes HQ office.
We were there for the launch announcement of the new XPeak fat tire off-road ebike and the excitement and enthusiasm in the office space was contagious. Levi Conlow presented some stats on the company. Lectric has sold 400,000 ebikes since Levi and Robby Deziel started the company four years ago. One in five ebikes sold in the US are Lectric eBikes models with over 50% of the folding bikes sold in the country.
I had the pleasure of talking with each of these gentlemen for some time and appreciate their sincere desire to make ebikes accessible for all with some outstanding philanthropy initiatives that they are a part of at Lectric. They both answered all of my questions and gave me the confidence to continue to buy Lectric bikes.
The XPeak is the company’s first fat tire ebike with 4” x 26” tires and as you can see on the website it is the first ebike to satisfy the eMTB ISO 4210 standard. It sports a RST front fork, convenient front thru-axle, 750W rear hub motor and much more. It launches at just $1,299 and I will be placing my own order when the pre-order period launches on 1 November. Lectric offers a white step through model and a black high step model, but I prefer the opening of the white one, especially if I get in a sticky situation and need to bail off the bike.
Those who pre-order will receive a $450 value package that consists of a Rear Rack, Front Rack, Fenders, Large Basket, Small Basket, Bike Lock, and Elite Headlight. If you are already a Lectric customer then check your inbox for another $100 loyalty offer. The bike is scheduled to ship in January.
Thankfully, media at the event were given an opportunity to ride the Lectric XPeak in the hills of Phoenix and it was honestly the most gnarly trail I have ridden on with loose rocks and exciting terrain. I felt extremely confident on the XPeak though with the wide tires, powerful motor, and stable platform. Stay tuned for a full review when my own bike arrives early next year.
Lectric XP 3.0 hydraulic brake upgrade
I’ve had the upgrade kit for a couple of months and was finally motivated to upgrade the brakes on my XP 3.0. I followed the video embedded below as it is the most comprehensive tutorial I have seen for the upgrade and I was able to get it completed in about 45 minutes.
It is fantastic that Lectric stands by its products and released the hydraulic brake upgrade for free. The bike stops much faster now and I am loving the upgrade.
Lectric continues to impress me as a company, standing behind its products and coming up with ways to provide affordable ebikes that are compelling.
