Welcome to palmsolo’s Refresh, a newsletter sharing a 25+ year perspective of mobile technology. You can check out my new About page that shares a bit of my history since I started using mobile tech in 1997. I’m writing this now because of a sudden mandatory “break” from writing on ZDNET, a place where I launched the ZDNET Mobile Gadgeteer more than 16.5 years ago.
I have a sincere passion for mobile technology that has broadened from phones and tablets to also covering health and wellness technology that includes smartwatches, exercise equipment, running shoes, electric bikes, and more. I’m not launching this Substack with an intent to replace my ZDNET income, but as a place where I can continue to write and have full control over the content. That also means I won’t have the amazing editing support (and Kerry’s awesome hed creation) that I had at ZDNET, but I’m still a fairly decent writer so I hope you all enjoy the content.
I’ll share my honest opinions on products, technologies, and news related to modern and mobile technology. I also thoroughly enjoy helping people make informed purchase decisions, understand and use the devices they own, and talk about the world of mobile technology so please reach out to me via email, Twitter, and the comments to continue the conversation.
Looking at a few products I have in hand and some coming down the pike, here is what you can expect in the coming weeks. I’ll show off a couple of new products this week, talk about using the Z Fold 4, Pixel 7 Pro, Amazon Kindle Scribe, and some new running shoes. Hydrow launched its new Circuit Training feature and I will discuss it along with a video showing off some of what you can enjoy.
While I have several topics to cover, I also would love to know what you would like me to write about here on Substack. If you have any ideas for coverage on YouTube, please share those thoughts with me too.
Thank you all for your feedback and support. I look forward to this new opportunity and a “refresh” of my mobile life.
